If you look solely at sales of all albums, this week Michael Jackson's special edition Thriller 25 would be lodged at #1 based on strong sales of 170,000 copies. However, a quick look at the Billboard Top 200 album chart shows Grammy-winning Amy Winehouse and her album Back to Black sitting comfortably at #2 with Michael Jackson nowhere to be seen.
The reason for this exclusion of Thriller 25 is that Billboard considers the album a catalog or oldies album, and Billboard publishes a special chart just for catalog albums. If you look at this chart, Michael Jackson is at #1 with the biggest one-week sales of a catalog album in over 10 years. Jackson's label Sony is complaining about the placement reasoning that the Top 200 chart is much more visible and likely to impact sales, but Billboard holds firm by their decision indicating they also spoke to major retailers such as Wal-Mart and Best Buy in making their decision. Sony also claims that it should be considered a new album because of the inclusion of new versions of songs featuring Akon and Fergie among others. However, past precedent shows that other albums including even more new material have been kept to the catalog chart.
Despite the controversy, it is quite an achievement for any 25 year old album to sell over 100,000 copies in one week!!!

Pop superstar Michael Jackson will appear at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, but he won't be singing at the ceremony. Jackson was rumored to be attending the Los Angeles bash to promote a 25th anniversary re-release of his album "Thriller," and organizers were eager for the star to duet on hits from the LP with various performers, including Will.I.Am, Kanye West, Akon and Fergie.
Michael, however, was reluctant to take on such a big project at short notice. A source reported the New York Post, "Michael can't go along with that. He needs more time to rehearse new versions of the songs. And everything requires new choreography." The NY Post also revealed that Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich backed down and consented for Jackson to just appear onstage.

Michael Jackson's 1995 hit You are Not Alone was plagiarized from a song written by Belgian twins in '93, a Belgian court ruled last Monday. The court transferred rights of the song to the twin composer brothers, Eddy and Danny Van Passel, according to a report on Agence France Presse.
The judgment is only applicable in Belgium, so the Van Passels will meet difficulties in collecting royalties. You Are Not Alone debuted at number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was written by the american singer-composer R Kelly and is included in the "HIStory: Past, Present and Future: Book I", Jackson's album.

People Magazine has followed other publications in reporting untrue and inaccurate information about Michael Jackson and the Jackson family. Of these widely reported rumors, what has become the most troubling and heinous, is that my son, and our brother, Michael Jackson, is dependent on painkillers and alcohol.
People, and other news organizations, have quoted “sources” indicating that our family has attempted a drug intervention, and engaged in an effort to take over his business affairs, because of this alleged drug and alcohol useage.
We categorically deny ever planning, participating in, or having knowledge of any kind of intervention, whatsoever. We strongly believe that these “sources” and others, no matter who they are, are making these defamatory, inaccurate, and untrue claims for monetary reasons. Michael Jackson, and the Jackson family, has endured years of false accusations and misrepresentations. It is time for these unfair and hurtful rumors, for profit, to end.

A lawsuit filed against entertainer Michael Jackson and Marian Medical Center is due to appear in Santa Barbara County Superior Court in Santa Maria on June 18.
The lawsuit alleges abuse of celebrity status and was filed Feb. 15 by the family of Manuela Gomez Ruiz, who was moved Feb. 15, 2005, from a two-bed trauma room at Marian so that Jackson could have the room. Jackson reportedly entered the hospital because he was suffering from flu-like symptoms during his child molestation trial.
Ruiz, 73, of Santa Maria, was on a life support after she suffered a heart attack, and died the night of Feb. 15, 2005. The June 18 court appearance is a case management conference that will be heard by Judge Rodney Melville, the same judge who presided over Jackson's 2005 child molestation trial.

Pop star Michael Jackson and Marian Medical Center have been sued by the family of a Santa Maria woman who died at the hospital in February 2005, shortly after she was transported from a two-bed trauma room to make room for the entertainer.
The civil complaint, filed Thursday in Santa Barbara County Superior Court in Santa Maria on the two-year anniversary of the death of 73-year-old Manuela Gomez Ruiz, alleges abuse of celebrity status. It blames Marian Medical Center and Jackson for the “outrageous, circus-like atmosphere they orchestrated during the last hours of Manuela Ruiz's life and its obvious emotional and mental lasting effects upon the plaintiffs.”

Michael Jackson has amicably resolved a lawsuit filed last Wednesday by a Beverly Hills pharmacy claiming the singer owed more than $100,000 for prescription drugs during the past two years, his spokesperson said Friday.
According to various sources, Jackson owed $101,926 and had made his last payment in mid-2005. "Mikey Fine Pharmacy has been paid" said Jackson's PR. A lawyer representing the pharmacy initially declined comment on the lawsuit, and did not immediately return a phone call late Friday regarding Jackson's publicist comment.
This action related to the administration of Mr. Jackson’s finances, which has been transitioned away from his former business managers. Michael filed a lawsuit against his former business managers, Bernstein, Fox, Whitman, Goldman and Sloan, LLP, on December 22 2006.

Washington, D.C. ……. In what is the first of a sweeping restructuring of his personal and business affairs, Michael Jackson has severed ties with his long-time accounts and business managers, Bernstein, Fox, Whitman, Goldman & Sloan, with Bahrani attorneys Qays Zu’bi and Grahame Nelson, and Gut Records executive, Guy Holmes.
He has also established The Michael Jackson Company, Inc., with plans to phase out MJJ Productions. In other related matters, he has named Spokesperson Raymone K. Attorney Thomas A. Mesereau, Jr., issues the following statement regarding Mr. Michael Jackson. “I am very disturbed by the false, erroneous, and self-serving reports about the relationship between Michael Jackson, my law partner, Susan Yu, and me. At the conclusion of the criminal trial in Santa Maria, CA., Michael Jackson was acquitted 14 times. The jury acquitted him of 10 felonies and 4 lesser-included misdemeanors. Michael Jackson was completely vindicated and exonerated by these verdicts. Shortly thereafter, Michael Jackson, and his beautiful children, moved to the Middle East. Attorney Susan Yu and I were asked to help him during this difficult period of transition. Michael and his children were exhausted by the terrible, unjust prosecution, and needed to start a new chapter in their lives. Because Michael Jackson was our client, and is our friend, Attorney Susan Yu and I agreed to help him, and his family, during this time of transition. For approximately seven months, we assisted Michael Jackson in this effort. We never intended to assume these obligations on a permanent basis. For example, my love is Criminal defense. I will be in trial in the State of Alabama during April and June, in two Capital murder cases, in which I am representing the client free of charge. I am also assisting in the development of a free legal clinic for the poor at a prominent African American church in Los Angeles. Attorney Susan Yu has other clients that she needs to attend to as well. We are still in communications with Michael Jackson, and his assistants, and remain close friends. Mr. Jackson completely understands the situation and is grateful to us for helping him with the transition. The speculation that surrounds this situation is nothing but shallow tabloid reporting. People should leave Mr. Jackson and his family alone.” |

 | Police have had to throw up barricades around a suburban Hamburg home to keep the fans and the curious at bay since singer Michael Jackson, 47, arrived to spend a few days with friends.
Police confirmed a report in the mass-circulation daily Bild that the US star was staying at the home in a quiet, green, northern section of the city. Bild said he was visiting a man he had known since a 1995 television appearance in Germany. Two of Jackson's three children, Prince, 8, and Paris, 7, had joined him on the trip, arriving by air on Thursday morning. Bild quoted a woman friend of the host family who had disclosed a previous Jackson visit to Hamburg saying that the children and their father had played hide-and-seek and romped through the house, which has a snow-covered garden. |
Jackson also stayed with the family in 1997, sleeping in the spare room, going for a stroll on the bank of Hamburg's Elbe seaway and to a movie theatre. Many Hamburg people saw him, but most acted bored, because it breaches German manners to stare at or accost strangers. Police did not disclose how long he was staying this time, but said barricades were put up to stop fans walking onto the property. Bild reported that further flights were booked in Jackson's name to Munich, Venice and Paris, with a reservation back to his Bahrain base on February 10. After his acquittal on Californian charges of child molesting, Jackson moved to the Gulf to live in greater seclusion. dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur |

| Malicious voices that in the last days talked about serious drug problems for Michael Jackson were totally denied. Once again it has been Michael's spokeperson, Raymone Bain, to refute all the false news and to clarify the situation. Mrs. Bain released an important statement talking about Michael's projects and his good health: "Michael Jackson has been working with several artists recording his Katrina Relief song, and with me all week, including today. He is doing fine and I have never seen him happier or healthier. Whomever these individuals are who are intent on disseminating false information throughout the media regarding Mr. Jackson, should begin hiring good attorneys; and the journalists who continuously rely on these 'sources' should begin checking them thoroughly, because Mr. Jackson's tolerance level has come to an end. The Green light that people have thought they have had to willfully impugn Michael Jackson's character and integrity has now become Red." | | |

 | Michael Jackson has slammed a newspaper report claiming he has been obtaining prescription drugs illegally.
The Sun newspaper also reported traces of cocaine were found on Jackson's underwear during a police raid and his former aides allege the singer is taking up to 40 pills a day. Santa Barbara’s notorius D.A. Dhomas Sneddon is still obsessed to bringing Jackson down, after failing twice to convict him on child sex charges. A new single is coming out, and the blood-thirsty attorney is still concentrating his... efforts... to nail Michael. According to Sneddon, Jackson is suspected of transporting drugs from California to Bahrain, where he currently lives, and obtaining them with fake prescriptions. The investigation centres around a huge stash of prescription drugs seized when police probing the child sex claims raided Jacko’s Neverland ranch in 2003. |
Sneddon is considering whether he can get Michael on charges of conspiracy to export a controlled substance and prescription drug abuse. He hopes to put together a case and file it in the next months. In response to the claims, Jackson' | |
